The short – Decent book. Amazing performance. No second book but free “extended” version on the authors royal road page.

The long – So the story isn’t the greatest, it’s good but not great. The characters are fun but have their “eh” moments. The performance, as most things Jeff Hays does, is phenomenal, along with the rest of the cast. Soundbooth really threw everything they could at this one. There’s real music, different voices for everyone, and the acting is amazing. Now for the “bad” part… There isn’t going to be a book 2. Instead the author decided to create “The Definitive Standalone Edition of An Unexpected Hero” which combines what would have been book 2 into book 1 giving it “a new ending”. So if you want the full story I would hold off on getting this until they release that version, if they ever do. If you’re like me and didn’t find that out till after you got this then go ahead and listen and enjoy though, you can get a “free copy” of the definitive edition from the official post about it on royal road and read the rest of the story and start reading from chapter 56. (the free copy isn’t telling you to pirate it or anything, it’s the official version by the author/publisher)
