This is one of my favorite series that I’ve ever read and listened to. I am an artist and like to listen to books while I work, but I was even moved to buy copies of these books so that I could read them on my own. I will guiltily admit to enjoying listening to the series over and over again and this one really is good for that. There’s lots of little hints and Easter eggs for upcoming story development. I’m probably on my seventh cycle of listening to the series and even now I’m still hearing name drops and plans from other characters that are starting to gel as the series continues. Ireally love this series and look forward to more books.
The performance is great. Jeff Hayes read this at a great pace without annoying pacing gaps. His characters are distinct and believable with great pathos. Honestly I couldn’t recommend this series more to people who are fans of fantasy/sci-fi.
The writer jokes with his readers and assumes they have enough of an understanding of writing to know when he’s using exposition. He creates the world in which there is enough of a cause for magic and science so that you can suspend disbelief without making it seem stilted as is so common in many lit RPG and other fantasy genres.
