I think that what struck me most about this story was the fascinating world SJ Himes built. There are a lot of characters and way cool powers and magic as well as a fascinating mystery/crime.
I wasn’t as impressed by the romance. It was sweet but for me lacked an identifiable chemistry. I was never sure exactly what drew the two to each other though they were really sweet together and there was some nice physical times.
What really made this book a 5 star read for me was the combination of the magic and Joel Leslie’s narration.
I loved all the different voices and their accents as well as his impeccable timing!
That combined with the fun spells and some really great characters made for a very enjoyable listen.
