The world ended in nuclear war. Some survived and struggle to survive in this Wild West apocalypse world. The MC is a librarian that became a post apocalyptic nomadic warrior.
In the first book he offers help to a town, gets rejected, while leaving there he finds teens posing as bears, a young woman who was the sole survivor of another town, and a slave caravan. He goes back to the town, exposes a saboteur, and frees the slaves. He organizes resistance to the incoming slavers, wins, and gets the girl.
In book two, the MC and his now wife/girlfriend go to a new town looking for car parts. The town is a grouping on Ren Fair people with a king and everything. Running afoul of corrupt laws, the MC is forced to go on a suicide “quest” to rescue a kidnapped princess. His wife is held as collateral, he goes rescues the princess only for her to be assassinated. A coupe throws his wife in prison so the MC creates a counter revolution. They win and install a democratic government.
In the third book, the MC is chasing his kidnapped wife. A bounty hunter took her to draw him out. She escapes and is recaptured but the bounty hunter is now hurt and needs help. The MC keeps just missing them. They all wind up at college campus turned town. Named Tolerance everyone there is intolerant. Hurt their feelings and you become a slave. The wife escapes and meets oddballs before meeting a nice normal couple and trusts them. The bounty hunter and MC are thrown into bloodgames together. They escape. The bounty hunter dies. The MC chases the normal couple who are really deranged bounty hunter/torturers. He fights and reunites with his wife only for her to die.
It’s a good story series that doesn’t try too hard and plays with post apocalypse tropes. The pace is steady. Good writing. Awesome narrator. Please enjoy
