I was hesitant going into this series. I saw a few negative reviews, and I’m aware that the quality of LitRPG can vary significantly. I’m pretty picky about storytelling – yes, this is fantasy, but there needs to be internal consistency, believable motives and behaviors, and so on. I’ve listened to thousands of hours of books by now, having been a member of Audible since 2008.
Chrysalis is my second favorite LitRPG series, right after Dungeon Crawler Carl. Jeff Hayes is far and away the best narrator alive and probably the best who ever took up the trade. The Chrysalis series is diverting, light, and simply enjoyable.
I give this series bonus points for excelling in all three of the following categories: avoiding weird sexual content (I’m looking at you, Boxy T. Morningwood), avoiding excessive cursing (Carl gets a pass because that series is incredible), and avoiding political grandstanding.
