there are moments when you want to get behind the protagonist but then an hour will go by of him. just philosophizing about the post-apocalyptic world and how it affects his kids. One section like that would have been fine but it’s just constant. The plot is telegraphed the whole way through and not all that compelling. I think we’ve heard and seen characters like this in hundreds of other books. literally. it’s not terrible but it’s literally nothing. get excited about
