I love the Calamitous Bob series, so I snagged the first of the audiobooks to listen to while driving and crafting and I have to say that I love the performances.

Most audiobooks are either a single narrator doing everything or a full-on, old-school radio drama with a huge cast, music and sound effects.
This one takes the best of both while eliminating the excesses of the latter. (I personally find the sound effects and music distracting in the full-cast types.)

Having one main, female narrator handling Viv and the few other female parts (and Arthur’s ridiculously adorable squees) and a couple of men to handle Solfis and the male side characters works beautifully. The small amount of synth overlay for Solfis’ voice and the System boxes adds to the experience without it being distracting. You can *hear* the difference between Viv thinking to herself and her speaking aloud, which is rare, and it’s done with a deftly light hand.

All in all it’s a A+ creation. It captures all the fun and absurdity of the written work and gives that little bit of something special to take it to the next level.

Solfis’ portrayal is especially good, but since there are 2 male performers, I can’t be sure which is responsible for that chef’s kiss worthy work. Still, bravo, sir!
