I’ve read all the books currently released and only recently decided to grab the audiobooks. The story is a good take on the theme and has a lot of references to current issues in society regarding AI. If only the narrator could sound remotely relatable.

The narrator is good enough to be bearable. Half the time he sounds like Ray Romano. His intonation and pace often doesn’t match the mood or emotions that the characters are expressing. I’m pretty sure David Stifel has never played anything more than a board game. I guess he made some effort using the bicycle bell (or maybe it’s a call bell you see at some hotel front desks).

The only saving grace is that his voice isn’t as grating as some other narrators who caused me to drop series completely. It helps that I also know the story from reading the books.

I guess maybe I’m asking too much to have books narrated at the same level as Jeff Hays and Andrea Parsneau. They make everyone look bad.
