NARRATOR: The intonation choices made by the narrator were so distractingly poor, i could not have made it through the first book – let alone the full series – without listening at 1.2x speed. I stopped listening several times at first book but finally remembered that I could speed up the playback. At least then it became bearable.
AUTHOR: The author used the same looping thought cycle over and over, ad nauseum: “how could he have known?”, “who *could* have known?”, “what would tomorrow bring?”, ” he finally realized that he shouldn’t worry about things he cannot control”, “next time, he vowed to be more vigilant”,
Then, in the next chapter, virtually the same thing would be written. Wash, rinse, repeat. For fifteen books.
STORY: The action was rich and entertaining. I enjoyed the story. Just hated the writing and the narration. Completed the series only because of a good story, and the faster listening speed.
If someone had done any editing, and directed the narrator, this might have been something spectacular.
