A nerdy forensic pathologist who can see ghosts, a protective and hot Scotland Yard detective, and a glamorous and singing drag queen who will not live until her murder is solved. Dead Serious Case #1: Miz Dusty Le Frey has the best and most hilarious characters.
Tristan Everett is quirky and shy. Unless his Hackney Public Mortuary coworkers force him to go out, he prefers to spend all his time working or watching movies. Scotland Yard’s detective, Danny Hayes, is new to town. On a night out, he saves Tristan from a choking accident with an ice cube. Their attraction is instant, and so is the job because the following day, they see each other again when Danny is assigned to the murder case of Miz Dusty Le Frey.
After the near-death experience the previous night, Tristan can see ghosts, and Dusty is the first one he interacts with. Being the performing and sassy queen she is, Dusty steals the show. When Tristan ignores her, she sings loudly. Dusty is also very meddling and constantly tells Tristan what she thinks, especially regarding Danny.
The story revolves around the drag queen’s murder as Tristan and Danny work to solve the mystery. They also get to know each other and slowly build a relationship. While most situations and dialogue are hilarious, the main characters’ backstories are deep and heartbreaking.
As always, the narration by Joel Leslie is impeccable. Outstanding as both Tristan and Danny and fabulous as Misty and her drag inner circle.
