As of writing this I’m on Mission 8 of 12 and this thing is such a painful slog I don’t think I can finish it. I was apprehensive even going into this one. Despite really loving Galaxy Outlaws and and mostly liking Mercy for Hire, I just did not give enough crap about Cedric, so a whole audio book about him wasn’t very appealing. But I thought well maybe it kind of expands on Mercy for Hire a bit because that’s going on at the same time.
My expectations where low and I was still disappointed. I have no clue how you go from writing a bunch of flawed but loveable characters in Galaxy Outlaws to this slop. The characters here are genuinely awful and just staggering at how bad they are.
There are zero redeemable qualities to them, there is nothing sympathetic about them, they are vastly annoying, moronic, have a reptilian sense of morality and level of charm I could only describe as “Insectile”
I really loved the low stakes of Galaxy Outlaws was, it was just those characters surviving in a bigger universe, But now we have a Universe ending calamity unfolding and you are stuck with a bunch of miserable characters that make you want to root for the end of the universe.
