Spoilers below:

I vacillated between 2 and 3 stars for overall. I was really enjoying the story until the stupid cat got the ability to speak. I usually love any animal in any book, but wow is Donut annoying! Maybe it would be better if I were not listening to the audiobook. I like the narrator until he does Donut’s voice. It grates on my nerves. I don’t like her personality either. She gets marginally better as the story progresses, but it’s not enough for me to stop disliking her.

Carl is alright. He can be fairly funny. The rest of the characters are pretty one dimensional. So, if you’re hoping you’ll get more than the Carl and Donut show you’ll be disappointed.

As the story progresses it gets raunchier and more adolescent at the same time. This is a disturbing mix to say the least. I really don’t like the whole foot fetish bit. It’s gross. Then there is the crap that happens/doesn’t really happen, that I did not want a picture of in my head. Specifically, the Maestro and Carl’s deep fake s*x tape. Especially considering the dudes audience is young boys. Like… WTH?!

The story was just beginning to get super boring before the book ended. I thought the “Gym Bro” Boss was pretty funny. There is an annoying as hell weight lifting/body building gym close to my house. They’re open 24/7 and like to blast bass heavy gangster rap at all hours of the day. To say I strongly dislike gym bros because of them, is an understatement. The fights were starting to get pretty routine though. Hopefully the next book changes things up a bit.

The dungeon is not described well. Pretty much not at all. I’m picturing the underground tunnels in the movie “Labyrinth” mixed with New York subway tunnels. That’s mostly because the very first creatures they meet are the goblins straight out of “Labyrinth”. Driving around in a machine like “The cleaners”. I really wish it had been more descriptive of the surroundings.

I love the “Good Guys” and “Bad Guys” series, by Eric Ugland. Even though the author of those had a few stinkers, he seemed to bring both stories back around. Most of the time I really like LitRPG. I’m not sure this series is for me though.
