The reason I stuck with this book as long as I did was because the performances were great, and the story had sprinklings of potential scattered throughout, the bits that weren’t predictable or avoidable. But between the bits that were almost entirely forseeable and an MC that is very hard to empathise with sometimes, let alone root for, the story just just a downward ‘battle spire’ of ineptitude. I couldn’t finish.
