Sean is an art student who comes out to his dad and is thrown out into the streets. He has no money, no job and is about to become a rent boy when he is attacked. His would-be friend/pimp gets killed trying to protect him and Sean gets injured, but is rescued by Armand.
Both the attacker and Armand are werewolves. It turns out Sean is a werewolf too, only he doesn’t know it. Sean is no ordinary werewolf, he has special powers. Armand wants Sean because he is his mate. The attacker wants his powers.

Armand nurses Sean back to health, tells him about the supernatural and they fall in love.

The rest of the story is preparing Sean to be a special Omega wolf and to try to capture the attacker before he gets Sean. The clock is ticking because Sean won’t get his power til he’s twenty-five but if he’s mated before he’s taken, the powers will be safe.

Overall, this was an okay shifter story. Insta-love. Medium-hot chemistry. Semi-believable conflict. Lots of loves, “babys” and honeys.

If you are a sucker for a sentimental, traditional “mates” type shifter story (like me) this is for you. There is next to nothing about being a wolf in this story other than as a plot device to explain the insta-love.

If you want a story with a more meaty storyline, more “shifting”, more plot…you might want to skip this.

I enjoyed it for what it is and give it 3 of 5 stars.

I LOVED Joel’s narration! I admit that I am a sucker for accents and Joel has given us – I don’t know – like at least 5 or 6 in this story alone! We get Armand’s cosmopolitan French accent, a British accent – cockney?- for the cook, a Russian accent, a New York cop, the driver/butler, and of course Sean’s “accent”. And there’s more! This is the beginning of a series that Joel gets to narrate – YAY! – so he’s preparing us with all the host of characters – what a mouth-full that must be! What I think is amazing: Joel’s ability to switch from one voice to another – no matter how many characters are involved – and keep it accurate. Awesome!

In any case – this was just plain FUN! It reminded me of a “telenovella” – high drama- all the time. Joel is really good at the emotion and timing – showing us how much Armand cares for Sean – how confused Sean is by Armand’s feelings – and the growly moments when Armand must defend Sean. There’s never a dull moment with these guys – every meal is exciting!

If you’re a fan of the author and the series – this is a must! If you haven’t read this, but you love a good “dramatic” romance (with – let’s face it – some OTT moments) of the Cinderella type trope, if you love accents as much as me!, or if you’re just in the mood for a somewhat predictable but still entertaining shifter romance – this is for you!
