ML Wang is brilliant, and this is a masterwork. I loved the world building, the characters grew so much during the story and while they were very human I rooted for them all along the way. She has a great way of keeping her endings realistic but satisfying. No spoilers, but there was one part that totally broke my heart. And while I sobbed “why” when it happened, I do actually understand why. A beautiful heartbreak. I highly recommend it, it’s probably my favorite standalone fantasy of all time. One quick note- Wang does not wrap up every loose end in her story, not everyone gets what they want, and the bad guys aren’t totally defeated. That is also the case in Blood Over Bright Haven. Wang does hopeful endings, not happy ones. Which may not be your thing. But as for me, I do love her for it.
