I think this would be more enjoyable for someone who has already read some of Mr. Yeomans’ other books. I had the feeling I was meant to be familiar with these characters already, to know something of their story and care about them, especially the main character. I felt like I was at an interesting party where everyone knew each other except me. If this author is new to you, too, I’d suggest starting with some of the other books first and trying this one once you’re familiar with this Lakota stuff. It was a little dark for my bedtime reading but the bizarre cast of characters was interesting. You never knew who would turn up next.
The narrator had several different accents to contend with and did a good job with them but that smacking thing Mark Twain kept doing does not pair well with ear buds. Perhaps Twain was that irritating in real life but he wouldn’t be directly in my ear. 🙂 Good job otherwise, though.
I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.
