The book is a very fun listen and the world intrigues me, the author does an excellent job of combining many novel genre crossing tropes into one setting.
The characters at first glance are decent and varied for the setting until hours into the book reveal nothing new about the characters. they are the exact same from start to finish fullfilling their respective roles some to the point they might as well be skipped over ( which i do ) .
The main character has this smarmy genius magic hero thing going on but he has no real desire to be a hero to do heroic things, its just a job which he wants to be the best at for no reason other than for its own sake. Hes supposed to be a hero but never does anything heroic, heroism is just self employement for people with powers.
The secondary an tertiary are much worse filling the role of sex thruple for the main character. The secondary character has some stuff going on with her father which is quickly resolved and then shes pratically ignored as a character. Yes shes doing stuff and shes there but its like she a background character only referenced as a foil for the main character. The tertiary character who we get several POVs from is literally nothing but a shy girl who find the other two characters hot and her perspective is soley for pushing that forward. Other than being smol and cute there is literally nothing else about the character to know.
all in all id say a 4/5 worth a listen if you got nothing else lined up but i dont think itll be a series i continue after this.
