Who wrote this trash! No plot development, not much character development and the prose is so corny that I could almost guess what was coming next! This is white bread dystopia if there ever was any! There is no explanation at all as to what, why or who attacked America. The book starts with a bunch of high school juniors going on an end-of-school trip to a lake to do some apparently dangerous cliff diving which abruptly ends with one of the boys getting hurt. It served as pure filler but it seemed to be a vehicle for Joel to meet, get this. “the girl of his dreams’! Nothing about the trip home after the attack makes any sense at all. After a trip to Ben’s sporting goods store to retrieve supplies and a side trip to pick up the girl a gunfight ensuses with a couple of low lifes who both end up getting killed with no explanation of why or with what provocation. Did Ben just decide to murder them in cold blood! No more is heard about the incident. There is plenty of good old fashioned sexism as well, Begining with Joel remarking that his siblings, who live with their mother in Maryland are in great danger because they live with their mother and not his big, strong tough-guy daddy. The husband also gets into the act by blaming his “selfish ex’ for not obeying him and staying in Colorado with him and Joel! This book is cornball, juvenile and Audible should have paid me to buy it! Don’t waste your money on this trash! Did I mention that they continually refer to their dog Gunner as “Dog”! Dog this, Dog that!
