I don’t even know how to begin to describe this audiobook. The writing, the cast, the emotions. All the things were as good as it gets!
This is a story told fully through letters to and from the main character, Sybil Van Antwerp and a cast of characters that have played roles in her life and lead her on her current path. It is such a unique telling of a story that I thoroughly enjoyed as I love a book that features letters. Letter writing is such a beautiful art that has become a thing of the past – replaced by emails and text messages, which have lost the artistry along the way. This novel captured the beauty of letter writing to perfection.
This particular story being told through letters is the only way to have done it justice. Through Sybil’s letters we hear not only her story, but her emotion (or at times, lack thereof), her sorrow, her regret, her love, and her determination to do better than she has done in the past.
The cast of characters that Sybil exchanged letters with in the decade covered in the novel, all served a purpose and lesson that helped her resolve the things she has lived with that have held her back from truly healing from her trauma and living. It shows that we can learn and grow and become more fulfilled humans at any age.
This book is a must read or must listen for anyone and everyone! I honestly wonder if I would have loved it as much reading as I did listening. It was perfection!
