I honestly feel bad writing this less than five, because I absolutely adored this series when I read it.
When I realized that there were also audiobooks, I didn’t even hesitate to buy the full series. I very much regret that now…
All three main characters are narrated like pretentious New England snobs! The lovable Pike, whose main character trait is that he was born and raised an uneducated slave in a very sheltered camp is narrated as if he is some pretentious recent college grad entering finance! Our adorkable little engineering nerd space Marine? Well he sounds like that stereotypical bad guy from the ’80s coming off his yacht to mock the spunky peasant main characters. Even our hardcore older alien military man is voiced like a socialite who’d be mortified if dirt got on his metaphorical white pants! This was a HUGE disappointment to say the least…
I’m going to call this a donation to the author and reread the books.
