Interesting concept, but that concept as executed means there is almost no tension in the entire book. There are no stakes. The only way to create stakes is to disable the power that is the main driving force of the book. It feels forced and facile.

Additionally, the structure was off. It seemed to have three or four climaxes, which once passed would be brushed off in a sentence or two after reset. Overall impression is disjointed with no natural build. Again, this is mostly down to the book’s central concept.

Performance is okay. I am always concerned that there will be too many sound effects in this format, but for this book it was restrained to a different performer for the main character’s voice and altering the sound of some speech, such as diminishing it to convey distance or adding reverb. Overall, it was not too distracting.
