The characters are engaging and the narration is perfect. The stories themselves are the weakest links. The relationships and sex scenes all get shortchanged in favor of the crime dramas. This might have been okay, if the plots were better executed. For being crime lords and assassins, the alphas make a lot of mistakes (Bill and Mace, especially.) It is also puzzling to see so many instances, when in the middle of a crisis, the main characters go to bed to revisit everything in the morning… after vague sex scenes, sleeping in and having breakfast.
