It’s hard enough to write credible romance in a three hour novella, but adding engaging contemporary mystery to the assignment adds to the challenge. On the MM romance end, I didn’t buy the chemistry in most of these, making the open door sex just sex. On the mystery end, most felt very made-for-TV or even Hardy Boys levels of tame, even with occasional F bombs. There were also two or three that spent too much time on the LGBTQ soapbox, which felt forced without having the luxury of blending such themes into a full length book. Still, these 8 novellas were entertaining enough that I consider this a decent value purchase.
