This book series is family friendly and good overall. I appreciate how the father changes his perspective and parenting mindset. He wants to protect his family and keep them safe, but keeping them safe means allowing them, mostly his oldest son, to learn and participate in scenarios his paternal instinct says they shouldn’t do. His son actually saves his father’s life on more than one occasion. That being said, I think this book series was too long. It seemed like the group got into some sort of trouble every time they stopped to siphon gas or refill water containers.
