so I’ve heard a lot of good things about this book. a number of friend groups on Facebook continued to recommend it. I don’t like dungeon books. doesn’t seem to matter whether the main characters are running the dungeon or they are the dungeon core. it just doesn’t seem to be something that I like. Amazon tends to be very good at pushing books over and over again with no way of saying hey I’m not interested. lo and behold Here Comes Facebook. I’m trapped in a doom scroll. I keep seeing this ad come up which is rather deceptive. it is a cartoon slideshow about the first Dungeon Crawler book but it is not marketing the book. it appears to be marketing a webtoon app. either way I had no interest in downloading the app, but seeing the commercial over and over again with Princess donut as the main feature finally push me over the edge. I mean what’s the worst that could happen after all the good things that I had heard about this book. let’s get the easy part out of the way first which is that the narrator did a fantastic job. truly an enjoyable performance. now we get to the book. this is the first time I’ve come across this author so there’s not exactly trust built up that he can deliver. the first book of any series can be pretty shaky even from tried and true authors. the commercial that pushed me over the edge was with Princess Donuts voice. the first part of the book is from Carl. I mean it is dungeon Crawler Carl, but that’s not exactly what sold me on picking up the story. relatively quickly though don’t it makes her entrance. the thing is is that from the commercial it appeared to me that this was going to be Carl and donut beating the odds in a bid to reunite with Beatrice. almost immediately we learned that Beatrice has been unfaithful to Carl. Carl has asked her to come get her stuff when she gets back from the vacation with the ex-boyfriend. apparently the ex-boyfriend isn’t the only one Beatrice has been messing around with. at first donut seems somewhat childlike in his if she doesn’t understand what Beatrice has done, but then out of nowhere she seems to know the relationship between Beatrice and Carl and the fact that there were multiple other romantic partners for Beatrice to include the lady neighbor. the second thing that kind of surprised me was the brutality of the TV show game that Carl and Princess donut are enslaved in. it went a little bit harder than I expected. I don’t know if most people found it funny how it was presented, but I didn’t find myself laughing. that does not mean that I did not laugh in the entire book because it were a couple parts that I found funny. they just had nothing to do with the Ultra violence. ultimately I don’t know if I’m going to continue on with the series. I might just start asking Google about the few parts that I’m curious enough to get answers for. I will say that if anybody reading this review is curious but not exactly willing or convinced enough to buy the audio, the story is available under Kindle unlimited. of course you will miss out on the amazing voice acting performance, but you can get a satisfactory look at the story before you spend the extra money if
