Where does Without Mercy rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Overall, in my opinion, it was only average for a “True Crime” book. Kevin Pierce’s duties as raconteur are well done as always. The story of the murders conceived by James Bryant, arranged by Dee Casteel and perpetrated by Mike Irvine and a henchman was meticulous in its telling.

The reality plot is a bit bizzare. The story was a bit sympathetic toward Dee. A severe alcoholic.

It didn’t evoke much sympathy with me. Except for the prime victim’s mother who is also murdered. I didn’t much like any of the players. Because of how premeditated and cruel the crimes were for any gains to be had from the motives.

If you’ve listened to books by Gary Provost before, how does this one compare?
I’ve read a large volume of “True Crime” over the years. Gary Provost, who passed away in 1995, wrote several books in the genre as well as many books on writing. It’s been a while, my memory is too vague for a comparison. I am sure I’ve read others though.
What does Kevin Pierce bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I’m a true fan of Kevin Pierce. I feel I get a better image of characters from listening to his work than I might from “just” reading. He’s the consumate professional in the field.
If you could give Without Mercy a new subtitle, what would it be?
Don’t Drink and Think in the Same Room.
Any additional comments?
Thanks for the opportunity to review it!

Despite my criticism, if you are a reader of True Crime work, you may enjoy this.

This review copy audiobook was provided by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost. Which I can only assume was voluntary on their part. I am happy to give my honest review of it. I think I’m suppose to mention how reviewing this was voluntary on my part too.
