First, I would like to give praise to the narration, it’s really remarkable and so well done. I think I’ve never come across a male narrator with so much range in doing voices especially female voices that are not cringey. Sure it’s very over the top and perhaps a tad over-acted, but I think it goes well with the tone and style of the book.
As for the book itself, I think I’m not the target. I can see how creative it is and I can appreciate the intentional absurdity and ridiculousness of it all, but I just found myself constantly drifting off either not interested or plain bored. The humor was very hit or miss for me, sometimes it’s just too forced. There’s also too much time spent describing bad guys and achievements and rewards and tools and weapons and spells, etc. I just don’t connect with that. The fights were confusing or maybe I was not feeling like paying attention…
I think this is a very specific niche genre and it’s just not for me.
