I like puns, especially bad ones, but this book takes it so far to where it’s not funny anymore and him stopping to laugh at his own jokes, every single time, really doesn’t help. Maybe a middle schooler would enjoy it? There is zero world building so far and the whole story seems directionless. The worst part, by far, is the dialogue, it seems incredibly empty and lacking substance of any kind. I don’t need it to be complicated but at least not make it seem like it was a 10yr old’s first draft of a story. Everyone the main character speaks to sound like complete simpletons especially the ones that feel the need to say their gang’s name every time they speak. Everything about this book feels flat and devoid of color, character, and depth. Lastly, it’s getting really tiresome how many fantasy books like to flat out disrespect and mistreat women characters more than the men, on top of the cliché of having young girls calling males “master” and have them relying on solely male characters to build strength. -10/10 story, 09/10 performance only because they gave the 18yr old girl the voice of a toddler.
