Imho this should have been a short story. The amount of detail is excessive and unnecessary…an hour short of finishing (!) I gave up. The narrator is WAY too much. It needed a softer touch. I usually adore this kind of deep dive but will stick with writers who have proven their skill at writing outdoor adventures, into the wild etc. Even Werner Herzog, with all his insistence, does better. Oh well.
