The narration of “The Correspondent” by Virginia Evans, is pure excellence – it takes what is already outstanding and delivers perfection. Truly, this one of the best books I’ve had the pleasure of reading.
I wish I could write to Sybil – I miss her! – and I find myself wanting to re-read as if connecting with an old (no pun intended) friend. This book touched me deeply, connecting me with Sybil across family, career, romance, parent-child relationships, guilt, and love. It’s a tour de force.
The main character is a beautifully human mix—funny, lovable, difficult, and curious. She shares her story through letters—to everyone, from close loved ones to chance encounters. These letters reveal her history and open windows into others’ lives, too. Though I don’t always love letter-based books, this one’s done so expertly, I want more.
Without spoiling, the ending is powerful and satisfying. I recommend everyone, of any background, pick this up. It’s one of those books that stays with you.
