I’m late to the party here! I recently discovered whole DCC world and was intrigued by the whacko premise and 5 star fan reviews. Book 1 was a good time! So I almost immediately started The Dungeon Anarchist’s Cookbook (I skipped Book 2 based on the description).

Quality control didn’t seem to be a priority for DCC Book 3 – and the lack of effort shows. I am NOT in the audio business and I’m not even an audiophile (I am devoted to my Airpods pro, otherwise I have a a small, portable JBL Bluetooth speaker). So I have not connoisseurs opinions. But I do love audio books, I listen almost daily and I’ve noticed an creeping sloppiness and mercinary attitude of “grab the cash, who cares about production value. What ever’s cheapest, those audiobook people will buy anything and leave 5 star reviews.”

I could only get through a few hours of this book. The thing that made it a miserable listen for me was the shoddy audio production (I’m not sure about the jargon so no laughing). I could hear ambient noise – pages turning, etc.. There were bad edits and some weird repeats. But the most annoying was the ragged volume normalization. Some audio unpleasantly loud and section were hard to understand. This didn’t seem to be a problem in the original; even with the “NEW ACHIEVEMENT” type sections.

Unfortunately I feel like I wasted my money on this book.
