There’s a decent story in here but over the top drug use detracts from that. I’ve lived with pot heads before and that stuff is poison to the brain. It’s nice that the MC is more prepper adjacent than an actual prepper himself which means the book doesn’t devolve into a discussion of one man’s preps and the contents of his bug out bad. I like that the main female character isn’t a wilted lettuce, and none of the characters is really outright hateful and over the top paranoid. The story wraps up pretty nicely without a cliff hanger. It’s a solid book. Nothing exceptional but good to pass the time.
I don’t get Kevin Piece’s popularity as narrator. He has no range as a voice actor. Does not do accents, or give different characters different voices. He sounds a little like an 70 yo man who forgot to put in his dentures. Unfortunately he’s inescapable in this genre.
