3.5-4 stars
This was a pretty good story and start to the series. I liked Abby and Zoran and their story was very enjoyable. This is the first story I’ve read by this author so far but I liked it well enough that I plan to continue the series.
Abby is an artist that makes beautiful pieces of glass blown art. She lives in the mountains outside of the small town she grew up in most of her life. Abby was raised by her grandparents but they died a while back and she’s been alone since. Abby has never found a man that made her want a relationship so Abby hasn’t dated…at all.
Zoran is a dragon shifter from the planet Valdier and he’s the King of his people. Zoran was kidnapped by another race that are enemies to his people and was tortured for information. He managed to escape but he was so injured that he couldn’t direct his ship home and he ended up on an unknown planet.
Abby is out on her land when she finds a golden ship that certainly doesn’t seem like anything from Earth. Abby isn’t too freaked out though and when she finds Zoran, injured and unconscious Abby decides to help him. Abby nurses Zoran for a couple days before he finally wakes up. She wasn’t scared of him and even found herself attracted to him while she was nursing him back to health but she’s a little more fearful when Zoran wakes up and isn’t sure where he is or if she’s the enemy or not. Clearing up any misconceptions isn’t easy either because Zoran has a translator implanted so he can understand anything she says but she can’t understand him. Regardless of this limitation, Zoran and Abby do come to an understanding…if not necessarily the same one.
Zoran quickly recognizes Abby as his true mate but can’t tell her. Abby is attracted to Zoran and wants to be with him but has no concept of leaving Earth to be with him, figuring she’d enjoy him while he was on Earth and then she’d miss him when he left for his home. Zoran isn’t satisfied with this option though and decides that he’ll kidnap Abby and take her with him when his brothers arrive to take him home. Unfortunately, the local sheriff (who also happens to be a psycho!) causes some issues for the couple and as a result, when Zoran and his brothers leave Earth, they end up taking more than just Abby with them. Abby doesn’t take her abduction well and it takes a bit of time for her to adjust. The couple has to deal with some more drama and danger on Valdier as a plot against Zoran rears it’s ugly head. Thankfully, they’re able to gets past the main issues (although there are some lingering problems to be dealt with in the following books) and Zoran and Abby end the story starting a nice HEA together.
This was a pretty enjoyable story. I liked Abby and thought she was a pretty good heroine. I was a little perplexed at why she was so convinced she couldn’t leave “her mountain” but at least she was able to get past it eventually. Zoran was a good hero overall but he was a bit bossy and didn’t do very well at keeping Abby informed on things (once they were able to understand each other I mean). The story was pretty good and while there were a few points that seemed a bit OTT, overall, I enjoyed it very much and would recommend it. 🙂
