I really like “Dungeon Crawler Carl.” And that series has a pretty strong anti-corparation theme, and has some alien racism. But DCC’s setting includes factions and races that are millions of years old. The humans from Earth express the type of racism that has gone past caricature and entered the ridiculous moustache twirling evil territory. The fact that almost all the colonists in the story have Spanish rooted names feels like Matt was trying to tie this story to modern events (2026) involving immigration politics. This could have been a much better story if the political messages weren’t shoved into every nook and cranny of the world building. As it stands this is closer to the originating conflict of the “Killzone” series between the ISA and the Helghast, only with much more blatantly false propaganda from the ISA, and if the Helghast faction were squeaky clean innocents who did literally nothing wrong. Travis did a good job with the voices, I’m not sure if Matt voices someone I didn’t get to hear yet, or if he’s playing the Xbox screechers that pilot the enemy mechs. This was a disappointment for me.
