I liked the edgy personality of Battle. I perceived him to have a blend of the rigid lifetime soldier and leaning toward literal interpretation of his spiritual beliefs from the Bible.
Battles decision to leave his home after it burned down, did not match his pragmatic choices at the beginning of the book. This did not seem realistic. Who leaves behind, shelter, guns, food, running water and electricity ATEOTWAWKI?
