Reasonably entertaining, but the single most logically fallacious book I’ve ever encountered. I was a young computer professional when the devastating Y2K bug hype came and went, instantly quieting that “sky is falling” crowd. No one ever admitted how silly they were. Not that there wasn’t genuine issue, but its globally disruptive and possibly unresolvable nature was wildly overblown and ultimately dead wrong.
The Y2K era evoked exactly the feeling “If Anyone Builds It…” conjures. Yes, take the issues seriously and devote significant resources and effort to address them, but realize danger comes more from selfish, power hungry individuals than from nonbiological intelligence.
