The narration of River was way off in my opinion. While Morti had a smooth sexy voice sounding no more than in his 30’s or 40’s…River reminded me of what a 70 year old butler would sound like….and that accidental perception of an age gap, when lust and desire were the goal, continuously gave me the ick and distracted me from the story.
In regards to the story, I liked the two characters and saw a lot of potential. There were times I laughed out loud. But a good portion of the conflict in this book didn’t make much sense…a demon who lied for decades and feeds off sin, suddenly found someone who lied to save family unforgivable…and the resolution to the conflict was so quick and out of nowhere that there wasn’t much payoff. At 60% through, I was over the two characters and wondering what else they could make happen within the book. I considered skipping to the next book when the story lagged, but was afraid to miss the lead-in to the next novel. The 4th quarter brought more action and made me more excited for the next book, but I really did have to force myself there. While I like the author and love the spinoff Hopeless Blessed angel series this book from the Damned Connections series is only a 3 ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ book and 🌶️🌶️🌶️
