The RPG aspect is a bit confusing, especially with everything being called essence – it makes it hard to understand or follow character progression, which is a big part of a litRPG. It also has the problem of a lot of these books where it will either say the same thing in several different ways in the same paragraph or have a character debating with themselves over and over about choices.
Still, the characters are likeable and the RPG elements are present and integral to the story. There’s mystery and drive and I’m going to start the second book soon. This book could have used more edits, but overall I recommend it. I should also note that the readers do a great job and I like the choice to have a man and a woman reading the male and female parts instead of listening to one actor try to imitate the opposite sex.
