After listening to the 1st book of Dungeon Crawler Carl, I saw this book recommended and saw it was the same narrator and decided to give it a shot. To my credit, I listened to the whole thing, hoping it would get better. While the narration was solid, the story left me flat.

I get the satirizing of the trope of the all powerful adventurer by making the protagonist (it’s impossible to think of him as a hero) of this book be a mimic. I suppose that was pulled off well. And there’s never an explanation why a mimic was able to level up like it did in the 1st place. And the mimic has essentially no redeeming qualities from my standpoint. It is stupid, cruel, driven only by whims and has no clear objective. It’s an entire book about stumbling around accidentally growing more powerful.

The women are over-sexualized and treated horribly. The sex scenes are juvenile, and there is a lot of misogyny throughout the book. That left me very cold.

I kept waiting for it to get better, and it never did. Needless to say, I won’t be continuing with this series.
