First few chapters are interesting, good character dynamics and a threat is present. But oh boy does the book become a nonsensical crawl as soon as the mc starts practicing necromancy. I mean the author just drones on and on and on about 5th grade anatomy lessons and how the necromancy would work because energy source this magic thread this. Yes author im so glad to know the foot bone is magically attached to the leg bone i dont need to be told that over the course of 5 paragraphs.
I havent even got to the most egregious part yet, which is the constant mini flash backs. I was constantly lost on what time we were even in, it felt like every 5 mins the main character was 11 again talking to his mommy.
There was a point in the book where I started my car drive with the mc raising a skeleton, and by the time i finished my car drive the skeleton hadnt even taken its first fkin step yet. i mean jesus we just spend the entire book in the main characters head and flashbacks.
this book is for elementary grade children, except for the fact the author includes quite gruesome depictions of corpses.
