Author is not very familiar with writing mass combat. There is a distinct lack of strategic planning or descriptive, tactical combat you’d expect in a war themed setting. Author does not convincingly use political intrigue or conflict between coalition factions, especially when theft and sabotage by allies are not prevented by game rules. Antagonists are not dynamic with their forces. Factions are taken out one by one with little reaction. Author is too reluctant to kill off many named characters in this book, despite good reason to do so.
