It’s books like this that remind me that two people can read the exact same thing and have vastly different experiences. I’m reading the reviews where people say they love the gripping story, the amazing plot twists, and the great characters, and I am flabbergasted that anyone could have that experience with this book. It’s almost as if Audible mixed up the reviews and posted them for a different title. How could anyone read this pile and come away thinking that?

This book is terrible. The story is simplistic and completely predictable—Helen Keller could have seen every “twist” coming from a mile away. The exposition is obvious and painful. The characters are stereotypes: paper-thin, one-dimensional, and utterly lacking in growth or arc. The dialogue is schlocky, clichéd, and so cringe-worthy that there were moments I felt embarrassed just listening to it. I literally laughed out loud twice because it was so awful.

I’m almost envious of the people who can thoroughly enjoy something this bad. Every sci-fi book they pick up must feel like Dune or Ender’s Game to them. But…the world would be a pretty boring place if we were all the same.

I gave this two stars only because I managed to slog through it to the end.
