Whoa, this audiobook completely drew me in! From the first chapter, I was intrigued by the detailed world building, the political structure and the oath/magic system, and the characters that are flawed and yet so lovable. Tehran, Emilia and Knox all faced challenges and heartbreaking, impossible choices and I am completely invested in their story!
I can’t explain the romance without spoiling anything but I enjoyed how it was not a side plot but also didn’t completely overwhelm the rest of the story. You may want to grab a few tissues before you read this one – it was both heart melting and heart breaking! I was on the edge of my seat with all the plot twists and heart pounding suspense and loved the balance and pacing between all of the different moving pieces of the story.
This may be a fantasy with giant monsters in the earth but it also has so much heart and depth! At it’s core, this is a story about friendship and sacrifice, love and loyalty, and the power of our words.
I highly recommend this audiobook; the narrator was amazing! This is the first book in a duology (read: there will be cliffhangers) and the second one is set to release fall of 2025 and I plan on being first in line to read it!!
