The protagonist here is certainly compelling. In her letters, she reveals a sternness reserved for the blue blooded Yankees I grew up with. It is unbecoming of her, but still, we must read on to see where the author is taking us.
As Sybil’s history unfolds, along with the vibrant correspondence she keeps up with her pen, we know there is more, much more to be told here. What unfolds is a deeply emotional telling of a life nary one of us escapes, soulful love, unspeakable loss, deep regret, remorse as a constant companion, pride, stubbornness, etc. I wonder if the author has created a new genre here ie, Letter Prose. I can’t recommend this book enough.
