I’ve been an off and on listener of this series. It’s not my favorite, but I thought it was a good story. I like how the characters have progressed throughout. I didn’t like the offshoot books at first, but started to get into them. It really zoomed in on each character and how they were able to overcome their self-imposed roadblocks. That is until this book. From the get go, it seems as if we are starting over again since every character seems to backslide in their development from the outset. Between Jason letting his frinds get roughshoud right in front of him without saying a thing and Frank loosing his temper at every barb, I just couldn’t help but think, “wait, am I listening to a book out of secuence?” I mean, Eliza inexplisetly gives away sensitive information to a known enemy IMMEDIATELY after saying that the person is untrustworthy!?! I just got fed up with it and turned the book off. I had already used a credit to buy the follow on book but I returned it. Maybe I’ll come back to this book in the future, but I just don’t like character development that bounces all over the place. It seems like a cheap trick to keep writing the same thing over and over again. Why do these stories always use weird and twisted logic for not sharing information with known trustworthy people, but offer no reasonable explination in sharing that information freely with an enemy? I’m sick and tired of the overused trope of “close-knit groups” not being able to communicate.
