Hyper-realistic is the key for why this is such a great collection. Miller writes very well. The plot twists, tge characters and the overall plot. And the key to it being good is being very accurate in everything. Human behavior, general physics, and even gun modification and operation.
Tell does an excellent job in presentation. The audible sound effects are a nasty combination of aweful and pitiful, overlapping a portion of chapter 1 in the first book, and a portion of the last chapter in book 5.
