Honestly, I wasn’t sure how to go about reading this one. The lewd romantasy theme was obviously apparent from the title, cover, and description, but I wasn’t sure just how outrageous it would be. It was outrageous, but in a really good way. There are a few spicy scenes, starting off with some lewd descriptions right at the outset, but then largely toned down until about halfway through.

The actual story, however, and the LitRPG aspect of the book cannot be overlooked. While yes, it was intended to be a silly read to break up the monotony of solo edgelord LitRPGs that dominate the genre, the book actually has excellent writing, amazing character development, and a simple yet deep “system” that scratches the RPG itch. Overall, I’d say this was one of the best stories I’ve read in recent months after finishing DCC and attempting to branch out.

Speaking of DCC, Jeff Hays gives yet another masterclass in his reading of Morningwood, as he proves yet again that he has one of the best voices in the business, with a fantastic range and the ever-present addition of small sound effects to really add breadth to the story he is telling. Truly, this is a must-read for any fans of DCC and anyone looking for a great LitRPG to read.
