An epistolary novel is a special treat for a patient reader. I think I’ve always loved that idea of not being spoonfed a story. Evans’ delivers many times over to those willing to wait for each letter’s revelations, not only of Sybil Vanantwerp, but of the people who populate her life and her heart. Sybil’s voice, both as a writer and in the voice chosen for the audio book, resonated for me again and again. Something about how real she is, how, as humans are, flawed in this way that helped me connect to her, led me from letter to letter to learn more. I won’t forget her or the people with whom she corresponded.
