3rd in the series and it does stand alone well. We get some interaction with extended family (found and blood) in Louisiana that come from the greater shares universe of Erin Nicolle/Erin Nicholas and I absolutely love seeing that crowd. It makes me want to binge Erin’s bayou backlist.
Cian has been hunting for Scarlett and finally gets a chance to try and follow through on their amazing once up on a time weekend. But he has to work for it because even though it was the most epic weekend of her life, Scarlett has something to prove in her hometown and that one wild weekend was supposed to be just that. Once. She has a complex history and members of the community that hold it against her have a long memory.
Cian and Scarlett were well matched for each other. They both helped the other see their power and worth and make others take note of it too. But as always, it doesn’t matter what others think if you don’t see it in yourself, so having that person open your eyes it extremely valuable. Even though Scarlett’s walls are super high, Cian is determined to prove that one weekend is a foundation that they can build a future on.
The audiobook was performed in duet by Amelia Hugh & Connor Crais. Amelia is new to me and I loved how emotional she made me while portraying Scarlett. The history and journey that Scarlett goes on through this book was very touching. I was extremely emotional at the end when Scarlett found her strength. I love Conner as a narration and though I was a little disappointed that Cian didn’t have an Irish accent like his older brother Torren did, the accent work I did get from the side characters was enough to satisfy. Cian is so generous and kind of heart. Connor did an amazing job at portraying that but also the vulnerability and inner torment at times while Cian was unable to be who he wants to be.
I requested and was provided with a copy of the audiobook. These are my honest opinions.
