The narrator’s performance is what I’d called “muted”, but not a monotone. If I had to choose, I’d pick that over someone who tries too hard to inject emotion into every sentence, because that just wears me out. Still, the muted performance does affect the overall tone of the story, which is calm.
Overall, the story is wholesome; all the characters are good people and heroic in their own way.
